Abstract

Riba (interest) has always been a highly harmful issue for human economy and society, as it creates injustice, inequality, and economic disparity. Islam not only declared riba prohibited but also provided an alternative financial system that is just and asset۔based. In the light of the Seerah of the Prophet (PBUH), it becomes clear that the Islamic economy is not limited to the prohibition of riba, but it is a comprehensive and ethical model based on justice, equality, and cooperation. The Prophet (PBUH), in his practical life, set the example of the complete elimination of riba. In the Farewell Sermon, he (PBUH) not only declared riba prohibited but also forgave the riba of his own family first, presenting a practical model. During the establishment of the State of Madinah, the Prophet (PBUH) introduced such principles that replaced the usurious structure. In the present era, Islamic banking is providing interest ۔free financial services on the basis of these same principles. This article highlights that the current Islamic financial system is not a new creation, but a comprehensive model based on the Seerah of the Prophet (PBUH), whose purpose is to align the economy with the objectives of Shariah (Maqasid al ۔Shariah). If these principles are firmly implemented at the state level, then along with the elimination of riba, economic justice, poverty reduction, and sustainable development can also be achieved. Thus, in the light of the Seerah of the Prophet (PBUH), the Islamic financial system provides the best solution to the economic problems of the present age.
