Refund Policy

The Study of Religion and History operates under a clear and fair refund policy designed to handle situations where fees are involved in the publication process. This policy aims to maintain transparency and uphold the interests of authors while ensuring that the journal’s operational processes are respected.

Key Features of the Refund Policy:

  1. Publication Fees:

    • The journal operates with an open-access model, meaning that all published content is freely available to readers. However, there may be publication fees (e.g., article processing charges, or APCs) associated with the publication of an article.

    • Authors will be informed in advance if there are any fees due before submitting their manuscripts, and any fees will be communicated at the time of acceptance for publication.

  2. Refund Requests Before Acceptance:

    • If a manuscript has not yet been accepted for publication and an author has already made a payment for article processing charges, they may request a refund before the article moves into the review or production stages.

    • The refund will be processed promptly if the manuscript is withdrawn before acceptance, and no editorial or production work has been done.

  3. Refunds After Acceptance but Before Publication:

    • If an author decides to withdraw their article after it has been accepted but before it has been published, they may be eligible for a partial refund. The amount refunded will depend on the stage of the publication process at the time of withdrawal:

      • If the article is in the early stages of production (before copyediting or typesetting), a partial refund may be issued, with a deduction for administrative and processing costs.

      • If the article has already undergone substantial production work (copyediting or typesetting), the refund may be reduced to cover the costs of these services.

  4. Refunds After Publication:

    • Once an article has been published online, no refunds will be issued. This is because the publication has been processed and made publicly available, and the costs of the publication have already been incurred by the journal.

    • If there are exceptional circumstances, such as errors in the publication process or issues that are attributable to the journal’s side, the editorial team will assess the situation and may offer a resolution, which could include a partial refund or other compensatory actions.

  5. Refunds Due to Ethical or Procedural Errors:

    • If a manuscript is withdrawn due to an ethical violation, misconduct, or submission error (e.g., plagiarism, data fabrication, or authorship issues) after the article has been published, no refund will be issued.

    • If the article has been mistakenly processed for publication without following proper procedures (e.g., missing peer review or ethical checks), the journal will work with the author to resolve the issue and may issue a refund, depending on the circumstances.

  6. Refund Process:

    • To request a refund, authors must submit a written request to the editorial office. This request should include:

      • The title of the manuscript.

      • The manuscript ID or payment reference number.

      • A reason for the refund request.

    • The editorial team will review the request and, if applicable, process the refund within 4-6 weeks. Refunds will be issued through the same payment method used for the initial transaction.

  7. Non-Refundable Fees:

    • Any administrative, submission, or processing fees that are paid prior to acceptance, or fees paid for services that have already been provided (e.g., peer review, copyediting), are non-refundable once the manuscript has entered the publication process.

  8. Refunds for Errors on the Author’s Side:

    • If an author requests a refund due to an error on their part (e.g., withdrawal of the manuscript for reasons unrelated to journal error), the journal may consider a refund but will deduct processing or administrative fees.

  9. Transparency and Communication:

    • The Study of Religion and History commits to clear communication with authors regarding any applicable fees, refund conditions, and the status of refund requests. Authors will receive an acknowledgment of their refund request, and they will be kept informed throughout the process.
