Allah Almighty, along with creating humans, has bestowed countless blessings upon them that fulfil their material and spiritual needs. Knowledge is one of these blessings. Therefore, humans are given superiority not only over other creatures but also over uneducated humans. Allah Almighty says:
.﴿قُلْ هَلْ يَسْتَوِى ٱلَّذِينَ يَعْلَمُونَ وَٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴾([i])
“Say, can the knowledgeable and the ignorant be equal?”
Basically, there are two types of knowledge:
(1) Religious knowledge (2) Worldly knowledge
The subject under discussion is related to religious knowledge. There are many branches of religious knowledge, one of which is “Ilm al-Tabir”.
The Holy Quran states:
﴿وَكَذَٰلِكَ مَكَّنَّا لِيُوسُفَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلِنُعَلِّمَهُۥ مِن تَأْوِيلِ ٱلْأَحَادِيثِ﴾([ii])
“And thus We established Joseph on the earth that We might teach him some knowledge of the interpretation of dreams.”
In the blessed hadiths, the words “raya” and “mubasharat” have been used for dreams. These dreams appear in different ways and qualities. Some dreams seem meaningless and obscure, and they are difficult to explain. Some dreams are meaningful and appear sequentially. Some symbols appear repeatedly in dreams. Dreams affect the human personality. Whether the dream is clear or obscure, human nature demands to know its reason. “Tabir al-Ruya” is the first book that has the status of a source to fulfil human needs.
