The Doctrine of “Atonement” in Christianity

Abstract

A large part of the world population believes in Christianity. The basic doctrine of the Christianity is the Trinity. The Trinity doctrine comes to be the secondary or the branch of the concept of atonement " Kaffara".

 Christian doctrine of atonement means that the Prophet Adam (alaihis salaam) committed an extremely serious sin by eating the fruit of the tree. Like a contagious disease, the sin that was in Adam has been transmitted to all his descendants, and its curse has spread to the entire human race. The original or inherited sin has passed on to the descendants of Adam in such a way that all the human beings are considered sinful and unclean. Nothing can cleanse the human from sin. The only source of redemption from sin is through Fidyah (compensation, ransom). The compensation can be paid by the one who is free from sin. No one is more righteous than Jesus Christ who is the only Savior from sin. Jesus Christ, the Son of God himself atoned for our sins by suffering and being crucified and died on the cross. Whoever believe in his sacrifice and atonement, crucifixion and compensation and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe in the Trinity doctrine will be condemned and the eternal punishment is the justice for him.

 From Islamic viewpoint of Quranic teaching, the Christ was neither crucified nor killed. Not a sinner is held liable or punished for the sin committed by another sinner nor a sin is something than can pass on from one person to another one.

Each person is accountable for his deeds and will receive reward of it, and he will attain salvation on the basis of his true faith.  Belief in Allah and good deeds guarantees salvation which is the summary of all the prophets' message. The prophets never told any nation the complex story of the Trinity; similarly, there has been no room for the doctrine of atonement in the preaching of the prophets.
