This research paper explores the influence of the Prophetic Seerah (the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) on character-building and intellectual and moral training of young people. Today, youth are confronted with challenging moral and intellectual issues including identity crisis, materialism, peer pressure, disinformation, polarisation and digital media.
This research suggests the Seerah is a holistic and practical framework for the development of well-rounded characters with integrity and reason. It identifies important Prophetic characteristics - honesty, trustworthiness, justice, mercy, patience, humility, modesty, accountability and service to humanity - and how they can be applied to youth development.
It also discusses the Prophetic approaches to education and reform, such as progressive development, context and wisdom-oriented advice, role modelling, positive encouragement, constructive criticism, consultation (shūrā), and accountability. Linking these concepts with contemporary educational and societal challenges, this research suggests that adopting Seerah-based approaches within families, schools, and community initiatives can promote ethical steadfastness, intellectual balance, resilience, social responsibility and positive leadership for young people.
