Abstract

This research article is based on an analytical study of the Qur’ānic concept of human loss as mentioned in Sūrah al-ʿAṣr. Allah Almighty declares that mankind is in a state of loss except those who possess faith, perform righteous deeds, exhort one another to truth, and remain steadfast in patience. In this article, the reality of human loss and its various dimensions have been examined in detail. It particularly discusses whether loss occurs only because of false beliefs, or whether a person may also fall into loss despite having correct beliefs if his deeds are corrupt and contrary to divine guidance. Therefore, both theological and practical causes of loss have been highlighted in the light of Qur’ānic teachings. Furthermore, the principles of salvation from loss, as described in Sūrah al-ʿAṣr, namely faith, righteous deeds, mutual encouragement towards truth, and patience, have been comprehensively analyzed through exegetical sources. The study concludes that this short sūrah presents a complete code of success and protection from worldly and eternal loss.
