Women’s March and Gender Equality Discourse: An Analytical Study in Islamic and Contemporary Contexts

Abstract

This research examines the narrative of Aurat March and gender equality from Islamic and contemporary perspectives. In recent years, Aurat March has emerged as a significant۔ social movement in Pakistan, advocating for women’s rights, social justice, and gender equality. The movement has generated diverse responses in society; some view it as a struggle for women’s empowerment and equal rights, while others consider certain slogans and demands contrary to Islamic teachings and cultural values. This study critically analyzes the concept of gender equality, the ideology of Aurat March, and its major slogans in the light of Islamic teachings and contemporary thought. The research adopts an analytical and comparative approach to explore similarities and differences between Islamic principles and modern gender discourse. The findings suggest that Islam grants women dignity, protection, and fundamental rights while emphasizing balance in rights and responsibilities. The study concludes that demands related to justie, protection, and basic rights are largely consistent with Islamic teachings, whereas concepts conflicting with Islamic moral and social boundaries require critical evaluation
