COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF TAFSEER AL YAQOOT WAL MARJAAN AND TAFSEER FATH AL RAHMAN

Abstract

The tafsīr of the Holy Qur’an stands as a monumental achievement within the scholarly heritage, where Exegetes across different periods have appropriated this source of divine beneficence, utilizing their intellectual and technical competencies proportionate to their abilities. Indeed, Pashto, like other major languages, possesses a rich exegetical heritage. Among in these exegeses, two important exegeses belong to Pashtun commentators from the Bajaur region, who spent their entire lives interpreting the Holy Quran. The article presents a comparative analysis of the exegetical styles of Al-Yaqoot wal-Marjan by Maulana Qazi Abdul Ghafoor and Tafsir Fath al-Rahman by Maulana Abdul Jabbar. Moreover, this is not merely a stylistic divergence but an intellectual guidence, one that provides its readers with access to the Qur’anic exegesis through distinct interpretive pathways. On the other side, Fath al‑Rahman emerges as Maulana Abdul Jabbar’s notable exegetical gift, embodying simplicity and brevity while ensuring accessibility for the common reader. Neither tafsīr’s scholarly value can be overlooked.
