FAMILY PLANNING AND ISLAM IN THE LIGHT OF THE QURAN AND SUNNAH, A RESEARCH STUDY
DOI:

This research article examines the issue of population control and family planning in the light of the Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The study critically analyzes the ideological foundations of birth control movements and evaluates their compatibility with Islamic teachings. It highlights that Islam regards children as a blessing from Allah Almighty and considers Him the sole Provider of sustenance; therefore, fear of poverty and economic hardship cannot be considered sufficient grounds for permanently restricting childbirth. The research further explores the objectives of marriage, the importance of procreation, and the Prophetic encouragement of increasing the Muslim population. By examining relevant Qur'anic verses, Prophetic traditions, and the opinions of classical Muslim scholars, the study concludes that permanent population control without a valid Sharīʿah justification is inconsistent with Islamic principles. However, temporary family planning measures may be permissible under specific circumstances and genuine necessities. The article aims to present a balanced and comprehensive understanding of the Islamic perspective on population control and family planning in contemporary society.
