In the contemporary era, while material progress and mechanized living have provided humans with numerous comforts, they have also led to an increase in issues such as mental anxiety, psychological stress, and a sense of meaninglessness. This research paper provides a scholarly and investigative overview of the impacts of Islamic worship, particularly the remembrance of Allah (Dhikr) and supplication (Dua), on human mental health. The primary objective of this study is to elucidate how the Islamic system of worship provides tranquility to the human nervous system and establishes a robust defensive shield against psychological disorders.
Adopting a qualitative methodology, the study conducts a comparative analysis of primary Islamic sources (Quran and Sunnah) alongside modern psychological theories. The findings of the study indicate that the "tranquility of the heart" (Itminan-al-Qalb) attained through Dhikr and the emotional "catharsis" experienced through Dua are indispensable for mental harmony. A critical dimension of the paper highlights that the true benefits of these acts of worship are realized only when they are performed with conscious awareness and "presence of heart" (Huzur-al-Qalb) rather than as mere ritualistic observances.
