Qur’anic Interpretations of the Doctrine of Finality of Prophethood in Selected Urdu Interpretations: An Analytical and Research-Based Study

This article explores the Qur’anic interpretations of the doctrine of Khatm-e-Nubuwwat (Finality of Prophethood) in selected Urdu tafsirs, including Tafsir-e-Thanai, Tafhim al-Qur’an, Maarif al-Qur’an, Tadabbur-e-Qur’an, Zia-ul-Qur’an, and Tibyan al-Qur’an. The study highlights how classical and contemporary Muslim scholars have derived the concept of the finality of Prophethood from various Qur’anic verses, particularly Surah Al-Ahzab (33:40), along with supporting evidences from other chapters of the Qur’an.
The research adopts a descriptive and analytical methodology to examine linguistic, exegetical, and theological dimensions of the selected commentaries. It demonstrates that the concept of finality of Prophethood is not only rooted in explicit Qur’anic text but is also reinforced through Hadith, scholarly consensus (Ijma), and linguistic analysis of key terms such as “Khatam al-Nabiyyin.”
The findings indicate a strong consensus among classical and modern exegetes that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the final messenger of Allah, and no prophet will come after him. The study also emphasizes that this doctrine forms a fundamental part of Islamic belief and has been consistently upheld across all major Urdu tafsir traditions
