The return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan in 2021 significantly reshaped the security and diplomatic landscape of South and Central Asia. This study examines the implications of Taliban rule for Pakistan’s internal security, foreign policy, and regional diplomacy. The research analyzes key challenges including cross-border militancy, refugee flows, border management disputes, economic instability, and the activities of militant organizations such as Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Using a qualitative and analytical methodology, the paper explores Pakistan’s evolving diplomatic strategy toward the Taliban government and its engagement with regional actors including China, Iran, Russia, and Central Asian states. The study argues that while Pakistan initially viewed the Taliban’s return as a strategic opportunity for regional connectivity and political influence, the persistence of security threats and ideological extremism has complicated bilateral relations. The research further investigates the role of regional organizations and international stakeholders in addressing humanitarian crises, counterterrorism cooperation, and economic reconstruction in Afghanistan. Findings indicate that the absence of inclusive governance and international recognition continues to affect regional stability and Pakistan’s strategic calculations. The paper concludes that Pakistan’s long-term security and diplomatic objectives depend upon balanced regional engagement, strengthened border security, and coordinated international efforts aimed at achieving stability and political normalization in Afghanistan.
