Abstract

This study undertakes a temporal analysis of the signs preceding the Day of Judgment (Yawm al‑Qiyammah) in Islamic eschatology, dividing them into distant signs(Alamat-e- Baeeda), intermediate signs (Alamat -e- Mutawasita ),  and Near signs (Alamat-e-Qareeba)  , and situating them in a chronological framework informed by textual sources and scholarly interpretations. Distant  signs—The trial of Tatars, the fire of Hijaz, etc—are described as the signs that are already fulfilled. Intermediate signs—Scholars will be killed, the Quran will be taken as an instrument of music, good will be seen as evil and evil as good, etc — are described as the signs that are already begun to appear but have not reached their peak. These signs continue to increase and will keep intensifying until the third category. By contrast, the major signs—such as the appearance of al‑Dajjal, descent of Hazrat Esa, Gog and Magog, sun rising from the west, the Beast, etc—are depicted as unfolding in rapid succession once initiated, akin to “beads falling from a string” . This analysis explains the systematic eschatological timeline of the portents of the Hour.
