Abstract

This study examines the economic repercussions of international conflicts through the normative and ethical framework of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah, with particular emphasis on the preservation of wealth (ḥifẓ al-māl) and the preservation of human life (ḥifẓ al-nafs). In the contemporary globalized world, international conflicts ranging from military confrontations to economic sanctions and geopolitical rivalries have evolved into complex phenomena that significantly disrupt global financial systems, trade flows, and resource allocation. These disruptions not only weaken economic stability but also exacerbate poverty, inequality, and human insecurity across nations.

By employing an analytical and interdisciplinary approach, this article argues that the adverse economic consequences of such conflicts fundamentally contradict the higher objectives of Sharīʿah, which seek to ensure socio-economic justice, equitable distribution of wealth, and the protection of human dignity. The study further explores how economic destabilization resulting from conflicts indirectly leads to severe humanitarian crises, including displacement, food insecurity, and loss of life, thereby undermining both ḥifẓ al-māl and ḥifẓ al-nafs.

The paper also highlights the potential of Maqāṣid-based policy frameworks in addressing global economic challenges by advocating ethical governance, conflict resolution, and sustainable development. It concludes that integrating the principles of Sharīʿah into contemporary economic and political discourse can offer a balanced and value-oriented pathway toward global peace, economic resilience, and human well-being.
