October 08, 1958, the Constitutional government was brought to end and Martial Law was imposed in the country. On July 15, 1961, at the persistent demand by all Pakistan Women's Association, General Muhammad Ayub Khan promulgated the Family Laws Ordinance in the light of recommendations made by the Commission. Under section 4 of this ordinance, the right of grandson, whose father had died in the life of grandfather, to get an equal share from his grandfather's inheritance? Under section 5, it is obligatory to get a marriage registered as prescribed. Whoever contravenes these provisions shall be punishable with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months or with fine which may extend to 1000 rupees. Section 6, imposes certain restrictions on polygamy. The Pakistani Family laws on these subjects are quite different to the law of Sharia. Above mentioned sections, discuss in detail.
