Abstract

This study presents a comparative analysis of the personality and role of Elijah in Judaism and the concept of Imam Mahdi (A.S.) in Islam, exploring their theological, eschatological, and reformative dimensions. In Jewish tradition, Elijah is regarded as a revered prophet who did not experience death but was taken up to heaven, and is expected to return before the coming of the Messiah. He symbolizes divine intervention, moral revival, and the restoration of faith among the Israelites. His anticipated return is closely associated with eschatological hope and the establishment of justice. In contrast, the concept of Imam Mahdi (A.S.) in Islam represents a divinely guided leader who will appear before the Day of Judgment to eradicate injustice, establish peace, and restore true Islamic teachings. While Sunni and Shia perspectives differ in certain theological details, both traditions affirm the Mahdi’s role as a reformer and a unifier of the Muslim community. The Mahdi embodies the culmination of eschatological expectations and the fulfillment of divine promise. This comparative study highlights both similarities and differences between the two figures, particularly in terms of their roles in end-time narratives, their spiritual authority, and their significance in shaping religious consciousness. The research underscores how both traditions envision a future guided by divine justice, while differing in doctrinal interpretations and historical development.
