Allama Shibli Nomani was a renowned historian, critic, biographer, researcher and poet. He also played a prominent role in the construction and development of institutions like Aligarh, Nadwat-ul-Ulama and Madrasat-ul-Islah. His prominent students include Maulana Amin Ahsan Islah and Syed Suleman Nadvi. The article under consideration not only examines the Qur’ānic injunctions, teachings and allusions in the poetry of Allama Shibli Nomani, but also examines the commonalities of Shibli and Iqbal's thinking.
The following research method has been used in this research article. In order to examine the commonalities in the thoughts and thinking of Iqbal and Shibli, Iqbal's poetry and prose, as well as Shibli's poetry from Shar-e-Ajam and Kuliyat Shibli, and Shibli's prose from Seerat-ul-Nabi, Al-Ma'mun, Al-Faruq and Maulana Rum, have been examined. In addition, an analytical study of Shibli's poetry has been conducted to examine the Quranic injunctions, teachings and allusions in Shibli's poetry.
Quranic injunctions, allusions and influences are present everywhere in the poetry of both Allama Shibli Nomani and Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Quranic verses and Arabic compositions are used frequently in the poems of both poets. Both Allama Shibli Nomani and Allama Muhammad Iqbal tried to present Islamic teachings in the context of the modern era instead of imitating the West. Quranic injunctions, verses, allusions and Arabic compositions are found in abundance in Shibli's poetry. In Shibli's comprehensive works, the justice of Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz, the call to action, the equality of Islam, the events of the Farooqi Caliphate and the tolerance and forgiveness of the Messenger of Allah, the real reason for the descent of Islam, the migration of the Prophet, the highest example of selflessness and the kindness of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to the poor are very clear in the poetry.
