Urdu literature represents the intellectual, cultural, and moral consciousness of society. The teaching of Urdu literature in higher education institutions is not limited to the development of linguistic competence; rather, it plays a vital role in shaping students’ personalities, critical thinking, and social awareness. This study aims to examine the pedagogical significance of Urdu literature in universities and to highlight its role in connecting students with their cultural heritage while addressing contemporary intellectual demands. The findings suggest that literary texts, including poetry, fiction, novels, and literary criticism, cultivate aesthetic sensibility, ethical values, and humanistic understanding among students. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that the teaching of Urdu literature enhances students’ analytical and creative abilities and enables them to critically engage with social and cultural issues. Effective instruction of Urdu literature at the university level contributes to the reinforcement of national identity, linguistic awareness, and intellectual independence. Therefore, this study concludes that Urdu literature holds a central position in higher education, serving not only as a source of academic development but also as a means of fostering a socially responsible and culturally conscious society.
