Abstract

This research article explores the intersection between digital education and the Islamic concept of ta’leem (education) and tazkiyah (self-purification and moral development). In contemporary times, the rapid advancement of digital technology has transformed educational practices globally, providing unprecedented access to information, online learning platforms, and virtual classrooms. While these innovations enhance knowledge dissemination and facilitate learning, they often lack the ethical, spiritual, and moral dimensions emphasized in Islamic pedagogy. The Islamic educational framework views knowledge as a holistic process that integrates intellectual growth, ethical development, and spiritual refinement. Its primary objective is the cultivation of a balanced personality, wherein the learner not only acquires academic skills but also nurtures moral responsibility, integrity, and social consciousness.

Through comparative analysis, this study highlights the strengths and limitations of both traditional Islamic educational models and modern digital systems. Traditional Islamic education emphasizes direct teacher-student engagement, character formation, and practical application of knowledge, whereas digital education prioritizes accessibility, efficiency, and global outreach. Despite these differences, the research argues that both systems are complementary rather than contradictory. By integrating Islamic ethical principles, moral training, and spiritual guidance into digital platforms, educational institutions can create a hybrid model that ensures comprehensive learning. Such integration fosters intellectual development alongside ethical and spiritual growth, preparing students to apply their knowledge responsibly in personal, social, and professional contexts.

The study concludes that for Muslim societies, aligning digital education with Islamic educational principles is essential to maintain the holistic objectives of learning. A blended approach, combining modern technological advantages with ethical, spiritual, and character-building components, can produce learners who are knowledgeable, morally conscious, and socially responsible. This framework ensures that digital education fulfills not only academic goals but also contributes meaningfully to personal development and societal well-being.
