The Naqshbandi Sufi order, distinguished by its strict adherence to the Sharia and its foundational principles, has historically played a pivotal role in the socio-religious development of Muslim societies. This article explores the profound contributions of Naqshbandi Sufis to the construction and revitalization of mosques across various historical epochs. Unlike ascetic traditions that favored isolated retreats, the Naqshbandis strategically positioned the mosque at the very heart of their spiritual, educational, and social missions. By establishing monumental mosques and seamlessly integrating them with khanqahs (spiritual lodges), they transformed these sacred spaces into vibrant centers of community cohesion, spiritual purification (Tazkiyah), and rigorous Islamic education. The article examines how Naqshbandi saints mobilized local communities and resources to build religious infrastructure that served both practical and spiritual needs. Furthermore, it highlights their crucial role in revitalizing these mosques—not merely in terms of increasing physical attendance, but by cultivating an atmosphere of profound spiritual engagement through regular congregational prayers, their signature silent dhikr (remembrance), and continuous theological study circles. Through comprehensive historical analysis, this study demonstrates that the Naqshbandi commitment to mosque construction and active community settlement was instrumental in preserving orthodox Islamic identity, fostering grassroots social harmony, and ensuring the uninterrupted dissemination of Islamic teachings across diverse geographical landscapes.
