Publication Ethics
"The Study of Religion and History" is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in academic publishing. These guidelines are designed to ensure the integrity, fairness, and objectivity of the research we publish. They apply to all authors, editors, reviewers, and readers involved in the publication process.
Authorship:
- Authorship attribution: Only individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or analysis of the research should be listed as authors.
- Ghost authorship and guest authorship: These practices are strictly prohibited. All authors must have made a substantial contribution to the work and be willing to take public responsibility for its content.
- Duplicate publication: Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals concurrently is prohibited. Authors should disclose any previous publications that significantly overlap with the submitted manuscript.
Research Conduct:
- Research integrity: All research presented in the journal must be conducted according to ethical guidelines, including those for obtaining informed consent from participants, ensuring data privacy, and avoiding plagiarism.
- Fair and respectful representation: Research findings should be presented accurately and in a way that respects the beliefs and practices of the communities studied. Authors should avoid sensationalism, bias, and harmful generalizations.
- Confidentiality and anonymity: Authors must protect the confidentiality of participants and ensure anonymity when promised.
Peer Review:
- Double-blind peer review: The journal utilizes a double-blind peer review process to ensure fairness and objectivity. Reviewers are selected based on their expertise and potential conflicts of interest are declared and managed.
- Reviewer confidentiality: The identities of reviewers are kept confidential from authors.
- Constructive feedback: Reviews should be objective, constructive, and respectful. Personal attacks and discriminatory language are prohibited.
Editorial Responsibilities:
- Fairness and transparency: The editorial team of the journal upholds fair and transparent decision-making throughout the submission and review process.
- Conflict of interest: Editors and reviewers must declare any conflicts of interest that could potentially influence their decisions.
- Retraction and correction: In case of errors or misconduct, the journal follows COPE guidelines for retraction or correction of published articles.
