Abstract

Among the few poets who enlightened modern Urdu poetry to new heights of thought and art, the personality of Munir Niazi is of great importance. The creator of countless excellent poems, songs and ghazals, Munir Niazi, passed away in Lahore on December 26, 2006. Munir Niazi was born in 1928 in Khanpur, a village in Hoshiarpur (Indian Punjab). Munir Niazi's real name was Munir Ahmed. His father's name was Fateh Muhammad Khan Niazi and his mother's name was Bibi Rashida Begum. He received his early education in Khanpur. He did his intermediate from SE College, Bahawalpur and completed his BA from Dayal Singh College, Lahore. After the partition of India, Munir Niazi settled in Sahiwal (Pakistan). Thirteen collections of Munir's Urdu poetry, three collections of Punjabi and three collections of English translations were published.
